Israeli National Node

Israel is involved in the EPTRI project in the Thematic Research Platforms on “Developmental Pharmacology” and “Paediatric Medicines Formulation and Medical Devices” with the participation of Technion-Israel Institute of Technology (TECHNION) for their technological expertise in drug study programs and development of formulations targeting brain disorders.

The Chief Scientist of the Israeli Ministry of Health granted the official support to EPTRI by signing an expression of political support letter (EoS) on the 3^rd of June 2019.

The main Israeli Institutes have expressed their interest in EPTRI and organized themselves into the Israeli Core Facility (ICF). All of them will be part of the new establishing Israeli National node. More details on these Institutions are provided below:

• Technion-Israel Institute of Technology (TECHNION) is Israel’s primary technological university and the country’s largest center of basic and applied research. The research is mainly focused on drug development for treatment of traumatic brain injury, stroke, neurodegenerative disease and inflammation. TECHNION has several facilities as the infrastructure centers with research equipments for electron microscopy, in vivo imaging, flow cytometry, genomics, proteomics, bioinformatics and biostatics.
• Bar-Ilan University is one of the first comprehensive research universities to be established in Israel. The university faculties are active partners in national science and technology initiatives and its research departments are involved in imaging and microscopy research, infectious disease, neurodegenerative disease research, cancer research, drug discovery design and delivery research.
• Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (BGU) is one of Israel’s leading research universities and among the world leaders. The University has national and multi-disciplinary research institutes in many different fields. In particular related to health science, BGU has applied research and pure research in the fields of life science, bioinformatics, human genetics, epidemiology, stem cells, diabetes, cancer, advanced drugs and biotechnology.
• Hebrew University of Jerusalem was founded in 1918 and officially opened in 1925. The Hebrew University is ranked internationally among the 100 leading universities in the world and first among Israeli universities. The university has several research centers in the fields of science (e.g. bioengineering, molecular dynamics, stem cells and genetic research, etc) and medicine (e.g. brain disease, diabetes, cancer, tumor immunology, infectious and tropical diseases, etc).
• Weizmann Institute of Science is one of the world’s leading multidisciplinary basic research institutions in the natural and exact sciences. The Weizmann Institute of Science is currently involved in a broad area of research including life science, specifically on biological regulation, immunology, molecular cell biology, neurobiology, molecular genetics and biomolecular sciences.
• Tel Aviv University (TAU) is one of Israel’s most important research centers. The Faculty of Life Sciences includes basic and applied research in many fields as nanomedicine, cell biology, biophysics, immunology, ecology, zoology, biotechnology and neurobiology. The Felsenstein Medical Research Center Sagol School of Neuroscience provided the endorsement to the project EPTRI for the undoubtable relevance for the research community active in Israel as it can lead to an enhancement of paediatric research.
