BBMRI-ERIC is a distributed research infrastructure for biobanks and biomolecular resources. It currently consists of 19 Member States and one international organisation, making it one of the largest research infrastructures in Europe. BBMRI stands for Biobanking and BioMolecular resources Research Infrastructure, while ERIC stands for European Research Infrastructure Consortium.
BBMRI-ERIC offers a range of services and tools as well as guidance on different issues. The three main areas we cover are the following:
- IT-related services (e.g., the BBMRI-ERIC Directory, a biobanking catalogue, and the Negotiator, a communication platform for biobankers and researchers requesting samples and/or data)
- ELSI-related services (e.g., FAQs on the EU General Data Protection Regulation)
- Quality-related services (e.g., a Self-Assessment Survey for biobanks)
Main tasks in the project:
Leader of WP 6. Participant in WP2, WP4, WP6 and WP10 for ELSI, IT, Quality issues and governance aspects.
