The Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics (CING), was established in 1990, as a bi-communal, non-profit, private, academic, medical centre by The Muscular Dystrophy Research Trust of Cyprus. It is one of the first research and diagnostic organisations in Cyprus with a long tradition of excellence in the field of biological sciences and has some of the best facilities for biological research on the island. The vision of the CING is to function as an International Centre of Excellence and a Regional Referral Centre in the areas of Neurology, Genetics, Biomedical, Medical and related Sciences. The mission of the CING is to develop and provide high level medical and clinical laboratory services, develop and pursue advanced research and provide education in the aforementioned areas.
The main role of the CING in the EPTRI project is to help in the design of the infrastructure that would facilitate the discovery and development of biomarkers enabling the development of paediatric pharmacological agents. Additionally, the CING will be involved in five other work packages regarding governance, sustainability, IT infrastructure design, medicines discovery, pharmacology and ethics.
Main tasks in the project:
Collaboration in all WP6 activities and also participation in WPs 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 and 10. All three members of staff from the CING will be involved in the identification of various stakeholders in the field of paediatric biomarkers, in the design of the questionnaires necessary for collecting the information required for WP6 and in the preparation of the virtual pilot study to identify gaps in the infrastructure for the development and use of biomarkers for paediatric-specific drug development.
